This rather excellent Italian wine shop hides a teeny-tiny bar with a handful of seats where you can enjoy simple food and – naturally – an excellent selection of wine.
Founded in 2013, Bacco took time to get settled but has slowly found its feet. Having changed hands last year, this pocket-sized off licence now operates as an accomplished wine bar, popular with Edinburgh's Italian community and those fortunate enough to just pop in for a browse. The shelves hold a spectrum of Italian staples, Sicilian reds and Lombardy whites, and a handful of pricier delights. Owner Silvio's hospitality is exemplary – It's a real try before you buy experience, and often popping in to pick up a bottle of prosecco will lead to gorging on an artisan sharing board while chatting the night away. For groups, a warm spread of arancini balls and traditional lasagne squares can be prepared with advance notice but otherwise it's quality charcuterie, pecorino and fresh bread dunked in vibrant olive oil, which is no bad thing.
