Vegetarian and vegan café and grocery store, named after the former long-standing health food shop and deli.
Reopening in late 2017, Grassroots Café’s return to Woodlands Road is a huge win for anyone of the vegan persuasion, and anyone else for that matter. The original café closed a few years back, and while its rebirth may be under new ownership, one step inside confirms owner Jaspreet Matharu has retained the ethos of its predecessor. Long, high tables fashioned from wood and scaffolding line the middle space, with (presumably) faux-leather chairs lining each wall among shelves of organic and whole foods. Sandwiches and wraps make the most of tofu and hummus – while vegan meatballs help carnivores keep up the pretence. For something more original skip to the specials and one of the ‘burgers’. The fragrante is made with peaches, rosemary and cinnamon. And with the café remaining open until 7.30pm, it can do dinner as well as lunch.
- Provides: Vegetarian options (at least ¼ main courses), Wheelchair access, Free wi-fi
- Music on stereo: Acoustic singer songwriters
