Old-school style boozer with added cocktails, sport screens and a revolving Carousel Kitchen for street food vendor take-overs.

Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2019/20 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

Imagine Peggy Mitchell pulling a pint of craft beer and cranking up the tunes before the Drag Queen Bingo starts. The Dirty Duchess is your first stop from town or last stagger on a Finnieston night out, depending on your compass. You’re as likely to hear the Stones as classic disco upon entering, then stumbling upon a folk session. Or the weekly darts tournament. Let’s be clear that this is ‘dirty’ by local standards only. She’s no duchess but knows how to have fun while keeping up neighbourhood appearances. Play beer roulette with the mystery pint on tap, or choose from the well-stocked beer fridges. Class comes not from the softly lit faux candelabra, but rather from curry masters Babu Bombay Street Kitchen who have taken up a kitchen residency – which aims to revolve intermittently. Masala fish and chips, fresh rotis and wraps – all meet their usual high standards and are reason alone to visit. Pucker.

  • High point: Old-school boozer vibe
  • Low point: Babu will rotate out the kitchen one day
