Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2019/20 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

Bruntsfield has a new 100% vegan café – fantastic news for those with plant-based eating preferences. Run by Roberta and Thomas Norman, virtually everything on the evolving menu is made from scratch. A thunder smoothie achieves the right balance of hidden nutrients and refreshing, not bitter, flavour with a dash of smoked paprika on top of the spinach, kale, pineapple and ginger juice; soul bowl salads combine filling soba noodles with seitan, tofu or falafel; and pots of organic sweet potato chips come with gluten-free garlic mayo dip thickened with aquafaba (also known by the less appetising name of chickpea juice). The fridge is stocked with a range of kombucha teas and the hot drinks list includes plenty of original caffeine and sugar-free alternatives – pink beetroot super latte? Or maybe a hazelnut rooibos cappuccino with cinnamon and almond milk? There are tempting non-dairy sweet things and excellent sponge specials on the counter too.
