Tollcross branch of Edinburgh's cult taqueria, serving their followers fresh, funky, great-looking tacos and cracking cocktails.
A new sibling to the much-loved Elm Row taqueria, Bodega TollX is just as good and just as difficult to get a table at as its northerly sister. The menu revolves around a simple concept – tacos – but the composition of ingredients on offer is anything but. Crispy chicken thigh with hot sauce, blue cheese dressing and celery is a symphony of nutty, savoury flavours, while an Asian-inspired slant is given to tempura battered prawns with sesame-chilli sauce and homemade slaw. The commitment to innovative flavour combos doesn’t end there and their cocktail menu provides a range of expertly mixed libations. A classic Margarita, served with smoked sea salt, packs a fair punch, while Parting of the Red Seeds is a sophisticated blend of creme de framboise, lime and sumac enhancing a tequila base. Presenting some seriously delicious Mexican cooking with a global twist, this is one example of fusion cuisine that really gets it right.
