From the retro chic décor to the shelves heaving with artisan breads to the colourful cakes lining the counter, this little bakery café offers plenty of charm. Run by a former pastry chef, there is an element of playfulness and surprise in the goods on offer. For instance, hidden in the coconut & raspberry white chocolate cake is a zingy filing that’s a welcome jolt to the palate. The mascarpone topping of the banana & peanut butter cake is gravity defyingly light, while the banana cream centre is fruity and natural, rather than buried in sweetness. Wisely, the house coffee is flavoursome instead of full-on, meaning that it doesn't overpower the baking. A range of soups and savouries is also available. Everything is so clearly crafted with delight here that the only dilemma is choosing what to try. In other words, this is a café that quietly insists upon a second visit.
