Bar in the basement of hotel Abode, offering a taste of local and global beers, with sustenance in the shape of various pies.

Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2019/20 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

One of many basement bars lining a popular city centre strip, Pie & Brew is the brainchild of the Abode hotel upstairs. It’s a marriage of ever-popular craft beers and a gentrified version of the Great British Pie. Pulled pork, braised beef and other on-trend favourites pepper the solid if compact menu of pies and mainly more pies – though a section of ’not pies’ offers the pub classics of fish and chips or burger. There’s also a handful of bar snacks to nibble while perusing the draught menu behind the bar for the latest on the taps. As well as weekly specials on tap, there are quality offerings such as Harviestoun’s Schiehallion – with the brewery popping up occasionally to hold, well, pie & brew tasting sessions. If you can’t decide, there’s an ale flight with three third-pints, as well as a three-pie board for the hungry. Regular live music is on hand to enhance the bar’s offerings.
