Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2018/19 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £7.95 (+p&p).

Castello Coffee chose a spacious, sunny spot overlooking Bruntsfield Links for their second branch. Upstairs the low-ceilinged mezzanine offers a cosy area with bench and chair seating, while the ground floor level is bright and airy with high ceilings and large windows. Exposed brick against white, turquoise and natural wood and the pretty green outlook creates a refreshing and calming space. The coffee is just as well-executed. The Redchurch espresso blend (Brazilian, Colombian, Guatemalan and Sumatran) from Allpress delivers a smooth drink with chocolate, caramel and subtle citrus notes. Food options are a bit limited, though there are plans to expand in the future, but for now choose from a daily soup, sourdough with toppings like smashed avocado with tomato salsa, gluten-free cakes from Leo’s Beanery (the chocolate brownie is fudgier than fudge itself) and fresh pastries from Le Petit Francais. Overall, a welcome addition to Edinburgh’s Southside.
