Wagamama brings its bright, bustling noodle bar to the heart of St Andrew Square.
Yes it’s a big chain where all the food is centrally devised and sourced. And yes, it’s a familiar set-up that’s been rolled out time and again across the country. But it’s hard not to like this pan-Asian giant for its offer of fast, fresh and varied food. Like most of the recent openings on the revamped St Andrew Square, it’s a cavernous place and often packed. There are no bookings for groups of less than six but, with a fast turnaround and a capacity of more than 200, there’s rarely a long wait for a table. Service is friendly and efficient and the menu is clear and varied, with regular new additions alongside old favourites such as the katsu curries, ramen broths, donburi rice bowls and stir fries. The steamed buns are spectacular and there’s a good list of sides, extras and gyoza to ring the changes. Vegans, vegetarians, the gluten-intolerant and children get their own dedicated menus too.
