A British/Indian menu mash-up, the curries and tandoori are a big draw for this waterside bistro.
Overlooking the Montrose Basin, the name Stroma is derived the Nordic word 'Straumr-øy' meaning 'island in the tidal stream'. Owners Audrey Smart and Ali Rehmat took the building over in 2015, and have turned it into a popular local serving a menu strong on Indian dishes: the curry is a big draw. Booking is recommended on weekends, but if you miss out on a seat they have a takeaway menu available from 5–8.30pm every night offering 20 per cent off à la carte prices. This includes curries and tandoori, but also steak pie, coq au vin and venison medallions. A typical weekend specials board might have haggis bon bons, red cabbage and whisky gravy sitting next to tandoori chicken and pilau rice. The lunch menu is more concise, listing sandwiches, jacket potatoes, traditional hot mains (scampi, lasagne, macaroni cheese), a couple of curries and a handful of classic puddings. High tea lists traditional British classics with a side of cakes and scones.
