Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2019/20 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This traditional bakers and sandwich shop sits on a quiet street below the castle. On offer are filled morning rolls, cakes and scones baked in-house as well as a full Scottish breakfast. Popular with office workers, tradesmen and tourists alike, it attracts a steady stream of regulars popping in for takeaway and hot drinks. The cherry and almond scones are chunky and no-nonsense, freshly baked each morning by the friendly team behind the counter.

  • High point: Scone selection
  • Low point: More grab and go than sit in
  • Notable dish: Cherry and almond scone
  • Average price: £4 (lunch)
