A small, bright bakery serving up Scandinavian style pastries and sandwiches on homemade bread.

The 2019/20 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
The Broughton Street branch of Söderberg’s three bakery shops is geared more towards takeaway for their freshly baked bread and pastries, but if you can bag one of a scattering of seats it’s a nice place to sit-in for a bun and a coffee. Inside is all bright pine-wood and sleek grey walls, with an inviting counter displaying the day’s array of freshly baked loaves, sandwiches and pastries. There’s also a daily soup to enjoy with a crusty sourdough, or a daily salad if you’re feeling more saintly – to be fair, it’s packed with beetroot, butternut squash and the crunch of walnuts to boost the immune system and tickle the tastebuds, so it’s far from a sacrifice. For something more substantial, the smoked salmon sandwich is filled with classic Scandi flavours of dill and cream cheese on homemade bread. Coffees are strong and smoky, the ideal accompaniment to a knot of fresh dough filled with creamy custard and fresh, sharp raspberries.
