Neapolitan specialists in a city centre shopping mall dishing up Italian savouries and enticing sweet treats, with great coffee to boot.
Looking a little forlorn and unloved in the St Enoch shopping complex, newcomer Ddoce Café is deserving of more attention – not least for its speciality pastries from Naples and top quality caffeine fix. Past the pure glass frontage, the interior is contemporary rather than cosy, with white dominating, from the tables to the patterned tiles. A counter displays the wares while shelves offer Italian groceries to go. Savoury dishes tend to suffer a little in the silence of footfall, where an enticing menu of Neapolitan specialities including layered pasta, pizza, arancini, timballo and more is much reduced in reality with only a half dozen options dished up in disposable tableware. There’s promise in them, although reheating is never much of a friend to pasta and rice. While greater footfall should up the savoury options, there’s reasons enough to visit in the many, mainly ricotta-based patisseries – including a mesmerising ‘riccia’ of semolina and ricotta in a fanned puff pastry case – plus the doted-over coffee should have samplers singing like divas.
