The Loft Café & Bakery
Friendly and inviting, light and airy venue for top-notch bread and baking.
“We have pancakes!” chortles the website for this light and airy loft-style café tucked away in Haddington’s Peffers Place. Indeed they do, served with crispy bacon and maple syrup. There’s also porridge, maple-roasted granola and freshly baked rolls filled with local bacon. If you missed out on toasted sourdough with home-made jam at breakfast, catch it in sandwiches with one of two soups of the day, and follow with one of the cakes, biscuits and scones dreamed up daily on the premises. Texture and flavour come from such goodies as organic flours grown and milled at Mungoswells Farm and the cold pressed rapeseed oil from just along the road at Stevenson Mains. The Chocolate Tree in Haddington provides the Winter Spice hot chocolate, while coffees and leaf teas come from Artisan Roast and Pekoe in Edinburgh. If that’s not enough, there's the ‘amazing home-made caramelised onion sausage roll’: humongous and properly porky.
