A well-travelled pop-up kitchen now rooted in Royal Exchange Square with locally sourced smoked meats, homemade sauces, pickles and craft beers.
It’s all about smokin’ hot, messy, superbly tasty food in this cosy, informal little snug next to Glasgow’s Museum of Modern Art. The menu is smokehouse-style – think food that encourages joyously digging in with hands and fingers like a hungry Viking. Starters include exceptionally flavoursome chicken wings – crispy and sizzling with a devilishly hot and sour Buffalo sauce that leaves lips puckering, or a cheesy garlic sourdough that is the ultimate cheese on toast – chewy, gooey and very moreish. Smoked meats are the headline act (the group has big plans for increasing their in-house meat smoking enterprises) as well as plenty of meaty goodness for burger fans, such as the double bass burger – a double patty oozing with smoky, barbecue sauce and plenty of cheese. The umami burger offers a something for the posher palate, an earthy portobello mushroom smuggled beneath the fluffy brioche bun, glistening with a rich garlic aioli. With excellent service from MP and his team, Smoak may not be one for first dates, but it’s definitely not one to miss.
