Equi's Ice Cream Parlour and Restaurant
Equi is a name that is hard to avoid in Lanarkshire – about as hard as it is to refrain from popping in to one of their three parlours in the region to sample the multi award-winning ice-cream, which has been made by the family for four generations. Pietro Equi started the first café at Peacock's Cross in Hamilton in 1922, and the business is now run by David Equi, who oversaw the takeover of rival Nardini's of Largs a few years ago. The Hamilton parlour and diner deals in those Scots-Italian favourites of fish & chips followed by ice-cream, which the front takeaway sells to go – with locals queuing into the street on even the dreichiest day, grabbing favourites such as Sophie's Crunch, Tabletissimo and Raisins to be Cheerful. The restaurant, compact with appealing old-school booths, does pizza and pasta as well as the chippie dishes, though most visitors will be saving room for a treat from their impressive sundae menu. Tubs of their award-winning ice-cream can also be bought to take home.
