Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2019/20 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

Fresh, handmade bagels and doughnuts are the focus at this tiny café on Broughton Street, where it’s all about the round things. Rowan, the bearded baker himself, makes bagels from scratch and fills them with classic New York flavours to create a small but perfectly formed breakfast and lunch menu. The bright space is filled with products from local businesses as well as baskets of fresh bagels to take home to your breadbin. Enjoy a reuben on poppyseed with thin, salty pastrami slices, sauerkraut that retains enough flavour to remind you it’s made from cabbage, and smooth creamy comté cheese. Salmon with dill pickles on sesame boasts a delicately smoky salmon and refreshing schmear of cream cheese. Homemade doughnuts are light and tasty and absolutely worth getting covered in sugar for: the salted caramel is filled with a toffee cream that isn’t too rich and finished with a crunchy snap of honeycomb. Great coffee too.
