This family run wholesale butcher has grown to become one of the largest meat suppliers in Orkney. Based at the Hall of Yenstay – an east mainland farm owned by the Craigie family for over 200 years and farmed by seven generations of the Criagie family – the business is now managed by the youngest descendant, Thorfinn Craigie, and his wife Katherine. Using locally farmed and fully traceable Orkney beef, lamb and pork, the firm supplies restaurants, shops and hotels throughout the islands. To further the bid for traceability, in 2003 a purpose-built slaughter and preparation facility was built on the farm. More recently Craigies has pioneered the use of sustainably managed Orkney goose and now offers a popular selection of products using this tasty and healthy seasonal meat.
