Corbie & Cheip
This new artisan delicatessen and café-bar opened on Auchterarder's High Street in autumn 2015, with all the produce, whether local or from further afield, coming from small-scale producers with ethical values in keeping with their ‘true to its roots’ philosophy. By day, Corbie & Cheip sells a range of deli produce along with take-away or sit-in coffee, cakes and salads. Plans include an evening opening Enotheque, serving a selection of wines by the glass, with food inspired by German-born owner Anne Schaeflein's native Schnittchen, with open style sandwiches, charcuterie and cheese platters along with terrines. Suppliers include Loch Arthur Camphill Community by Dumfries, butter from Stichill Jerseys in Kelso, coffee, tea and soft drinks from small farming co-operatives in Sri Lanka and Africa. The delicatessen also plans to buy surplus fruit and vegetables from local small holders and to employ older local residents, in the hope that they can share their cooking traditions and knowledge.
