On Birmingham's Fleet Street, Indian restaurant Itihaas has a stunning interior with slate finished walls, original paintings and carved stone elephants. There are two dining rooms, the Colonial Room overlooking the canal, and the opulent Maharaja Suite below.
Dishes draw inspiration from North India, Mumbai and Kenya. The main menu has a huge range of starters such as Tawa Tilapia seared with ginger and garlic and Chotte Kofte (lamb with cardamom and cloves). Mains include Bahterey, slow cooked marinated quail, as well as dishes like Tandoori Trout. There are 11 vegetarian dishes including Bhangan Aur Tamatar Ka Bhartah (smoked aubergine in masala sauce).
The diverse menu at Itihaas saw the restaurant go on to win Best Indian Restaurant in the UK Cobra Good Curry Guide in 2007/2008.
