This newest outpost of the Rishi's restaurant empire is worth a wander up the Hawhill. The extensive menu covers dishes from all over India, but the biggest thrills are provided by the South Indian specials. Authentic flavours abound: egg bondas (deep-fried curried eggs) may be a street food favourite on the subcontinent but you'll be hard pushed to find them in the UK. Here they are glorious: a not quite hard-boiled egg in light, spiced batter, served with fresh green chutney zinging with coriander and coconut. Tiffin dishes like papery masala dosa over a foot long, light and spongy idli, vadai like little curried doughnuts are all excellent. Pongal – a bland cloud of rice and moong dal liberally punctured with whole peppercorns and curry leaves lest you dose off – is a pleasure. The lunch special deal is outstanding, with a vast mixed tiffin plate for £5.25 and a vegetarian thali for £4.99. Great drinks too: sweet and salty lassi and masala chai are full of flavour, and check out Rishi's own Thiruveni – pineapple and grape juice given a bit of oomph with fresh ginger.
