Laid-back and relaxing pub bringing some vintage charm to the Southside of the city

Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2019/20 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

Despite being in the eye of the hipster hurricane hovering over Glasgow’s Southside, there’s a range of generations at the bar and the retro but stylish dining room. Graceful cornicing is the closest visitors get to a glimpse of the old Corona as knowingly nudge-nudge vintage curtains by well-loved sofas are in the quirky style for which the city-centre sibling is known. Order a pot of tea and marvel as it arrives in your granny’s best china or dip into a Scottish-brewed Schiehallion before tackling the robust menu. Portions are ample, options plentiful and it aims to please without trying too hard. A black pudding and quail egg starter is given a twist with sliced apple and the ham broth is classic stick-to-your-ribs stuff. In the same vein, there’s a substantial steak with rich peppercorn sauce on the side to fuel afternoons and evenings enjoying a pint or two.
