A bakery selling cakes, pastries and bread to takeaway or sit in, with weekend pop-ups and the occasional workshop too.
Run by husband and wife duo Sam and Anna, bakery47 has fast built a reputation for supplying some of the city’s finest artisan cakes, bakes, and breads from their all-purpose Govanhill location. There’s much to feed the eyes as well as the stomach, with plants and cacti flourishing alongside hand-crafted lampshades and locally made curios. Arrive early to see morning rays stream through great glass windows, illuminating freshly baked sourdough loafs, peanut-butter brownies, and jamaretti biscuits. At the weekend, pop-up baristas are on hand to brew up the perfect friend for your cinnamon porridge, honey buttered toast or lemon and blueberry polenta cake.
Open for a week at the time of writing, Bakery 47's new shop is the culmination of a real labour of love, starting two years ago with husband and wife team Sam and Anna Luntley selling their speciality sourdough loaves, soda bread and beautiful handmade cakes and scones door to door on a Sunday morning, sourcing fruit from Victoria Gardens allotments and the Gorbals Orchard, and even bartering bakes for fruit from customer’s garden trees. The Sunday delivery is now fulfilling email pre-orders, and the light, airy premises, filled with smells of fresh bread, while being a bakery first, have a few comfy perches to enjoy a buttery croissant or a crumbly brownie with a coffee – with locally ground beans, of course.
