Its location above Matthew's Chinese supermarket is a good start on the authenticity front, and the Manchurian continues to deliver once you're inside. Dim sum are served until 4.30pm every day, from an extensive menu that covers everything from light steamed char siu buns to the more exotic delights of chilli oil pigs' ears (delicious, like a porky and slightly undercooked tagliatelle, but slick, salty and hot). The traditional menu is the one to look for if you're not eating dim sum: check out the pot dishes for full flavoured meat, fish and tofu stews, or 'roasts', a name which undersells such goodies as gui fei chicken (marinated in traditional herbs and spices and served on the bone). Worth booking a table if you go at night: not surprisingly, it fills up quickly.
