This Italian bistro inhabits half of the same premises at 11 New Road, Ayr as The Royal Café, from which locally renowned Scots-Italian ice-cream makers Mancini’s have now traded out of continuously for 90 years and counting. Named after Fillippo Mancini – current don of the Mancini empire – Fillippo's aims to bring the same rigours of quality ingredients, authenticity and culinary passion to hot savoury food from the old country as Mancini's does cold desserts. The twin staples of pizza and pasta are done with colour, imagination and presentational flair. Elsewhere there’s the essential Scots-Italian café staple of haddock and chips, and other seaside favourites like scampi. If you’re having dessert – and you'd be a fool not to – countless varieties of dairy and non-dairy ice cream and fresh fruit sorbets, many award-winners among them, await your delectation.
