Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2017 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This unassuming Southside spot has developed a successful neighbourhood dining experience – popular with residents living near Queens Park – thanks to the informal but smart space that acts as dining area come lively bar at weekends. The menu reflects an aspiration to offer interesting flavour combinations without being overly pretentious. Scallop and cauliflower make an unusual pairing, but the smoky flavour of the seafood works well with the roasted florets, while the grilled halloumi is full of pleasant salty flavours beside its vibrant, vinegary salsa verde dressing. A keen attention to the grill menu means plenty of variety and sizing options for steaks, including chateaubriand and prime cuts. Away from the grill, there’s plenty of other options – a main of meatloaf with a bean chorizo cassoulet and cornbread is immensely filling, a fried egg adding a nostalgic edge to this robust and generous slice. Enticing lunchtime and market menus add to the appeal, as does the attentiveness from the friendly staff.
