The 2018/19 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £7.95 (+p&p).

From a tiny kitchen, Pera’s owner Orkun Akan produces a cornucopia of Turkish delights. To begin, choose from a colourful and flavour-packed selection of mezze or for serious grazing opt for the epic sultan’s banquet – a generous selection of hot and cold mezze with a meat platter from the traditional mangal grill. Main dishes might include steamed sea bass, lamb and pistachio kofte or chickpea, fig and walnut tagine. It’s a far cry from the stereotypical kebab shop – the emphasis is on fresh food, cooked to order, enhanced with traditional herbs and spices. There’s a particularly strong selection of vegetarian dishes including some deliciously light courgette and dill fritters, boregi and vegetable stews. If you’re in need of a recharge after dinner try the Turkish coffee served in the most stylish expresso cups you’ll find this side of Istanbul. Small but perfectly formed, with a budget-friendly BYOB policy, Pera punches well above its weight in the flavour and value for money stakes.

Pera represents Turkish food at its best right in the heart of Edinburgh. We offer a unique range of authentic Turkish cuisine ranging from traditional Turkish breakfast dishes, freshly made gozleme with a choice of delicious fillings followed by a large range of hot and cold freshly made meze dishes. In the evening we also offer a variety of kebabs, all marinated in a blend of aromatic spices and flame grilled on our mangal (charcoal BBQ) the Turkish way. There is a daily catch of the day also available for fish lovers.

We are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a choice of sit in or take away.
