Island Girl is Gabrielle Johnson, who with her husband Anthony makes Ooft! hot chilli pepper sauce, to her late father's Trinidadian recipe. He grew peppers, and his daughters remember him putting his jar of pepper sauce out every day to warm in the tropical sun. The couple have made the sauce since 2012, but sales kicked off some time after the first batch was made: the sauce needs to mature for nearly a year before being bottled. It's made from 50 per cent garlic and peppers, with no chemicals or preservatives, and during maturation the jars are turned once a week and checked for a good even mix. It can be bought from Floors Castle, Teviot Smokery, Selkirk Deli and Mainstreet Trading in the Borders and in Edinburgh at Lupe Pintos, Cranachan and Crowdie and Herbie of Edinburgh, as well as from their own and Hot Headz websites.
