Drygate Brewing Co.

Both a brewery and an events space, Drygate hosts the likes of comedy evening, film screenings, live music and markets throughout the year.

The craft beer world is notoriously friendly and collaborative, sharing equipment and knowledge, but a vibrant tie up between Williams Bros, one of Scotland's foremost crafters, and mass-market lager-makers Tennent's is proof of this welcoming, democratic attitude. The result is a keenly branded, media savvy 'experiental' brewery and events space with the clout to take risks, and the strapline: 'Open doors, open minds: whatever it takes'. And it does seem likely that the location of the brewery (right next to Tennent's Wellpark site, in a renovated box factory) and the addition of what will no doubt be a very good pub and restaurant - V @ Drygate, second branch to Edinburgh's hugely successful The Vintage - will attract a new audience to the craft beer cause. Those who get on board can do so in a very hands-on sense: not only can pub guests watch the three launch beers, Outaspace Apple Ale, Gladeye IPA and Bearface Lager, being brewed through a transparent wall, but from June 2014 they'll be able to use the mini Studio brew kit and put their own recipes to the test. Further attractions include the roof terrace beer garden, 24 taps in the bar, brewery shop with extensive non-Drygate stock as well as growlers of any of that day's draughts, and space for gigs, exhibitions and regular events, including a beer club for home brewers and a weekly market. The brewery will have a maximum output of 5,000 hecto-litres, with output focused on limited edition batch runs as well as the core offering.
