The Cheese House
Jon Palmer and Emmy van Kolfschooten had entirely different careers before opening The Cheese House in November 2012. He had worked in theatre, she in Dutch primary schools - perhaps both jobs that give more of a grounding in dealing with the public and customer service than might be immediately obvious. Now they run a cheese shop not entirely devoted to Scottish and Dutch (and popular European) cheeses, but with a sideline in a useful range of other local and continental foods: chutney and preserves from Knockfarrel and Huntly Herbs, meat and fish from local producers, a few dairy products from Connage, some charcuterie and snacks, and, of course, oatcakes and biscuits for all that cheese, mostly from Cromarty and Ullapool bakeries. Find them also with cheeses ranging from holey Maasdammer and cumin Gouda from Northern Holland to Dunlop Dairy's Paddy's Milestone at local farmers' markets: Culbokie and North Kessock markets on the third and last Saturdays of the month, Inverness on the first.
