Archerfield Walled Garden
A great value day out, the Archerfield estate has two shops, a cafe, restaurant, monthly supper club, micro-brewery and children's play area on site, as well as being right on the John Muir way, and, of course, being home to some pretty good golf links.
Part of East Lothian’s Archerfield Estate, the Walled Garden’s mellow brick shelters a complex of fine wooden buildings with enough on offer to keep all members of the family fed and entertained on a day out. Head chef Richard Wire’s kitchen starts off with breakfast and brunch, and sends out soups and sandwiches day long. Lunch and periodic evening dining takes things up a notch, with recommended wines and plentiful evidence of imaginative use of produce fresh from their own gardens or brought in by hand-picked suppliers. There’s a decent kids' menu, a wooden outdoor play area and walking trails, while the bar and microbrewery tour will appeal to those keen to find out more about the trio of Archerfield ales brewed on-site. And if all that (plus the deli and gift shop) is too energetic, there’s a log fire in the bar and plenty of comfy sofas.
