Smeaton Nursery Gardens & Tearoom
A family-run nursery set in a historic walled garden, the pretty tearoom was converted from an apple house in 2005, and is set a short walk from a little duck-filled lake. Making the most of the region's (relatively) high sunshine levels, the cafe has a conservatory as well as lots of seating on the lawn for afternoon tea in summer. All year round there are home-made soups, sandwiches and salad platters, and a popular array of home baking - cream teas, or the choice between Guinness cake, banoffee cupcakes or a raspberry crumble muffin. Local ingredients are used where possible, including their own apples (also on sale in season).
