Paterson Arran Ltd began as a family business in 1890 and is now a leading supplier of shortbread, oatcakes, biscuits and other foodstuffs to the retail and food service industries. The company's brands also include the Bronte brand of biscuits, the Giant brand of cookie and Arran Fine Foods, a range of preserves, mustards, chutneys and dressings. In 2002, the company abandoned the use of palm oil as shortening in its oatcakes, citing environmental concerns. Bronte biscuits are produced solely for the catering and hospitality markets. Cafe Bronte is a luxury line of biscuits and shortbread for the cafe market.
