This recently restored, family run hotel offers dining in their restaurant, bar and private dining areas. Head Chef William Pottinger prides himself on providing menus of locally sourced foods and works alongside Find Wines to ensure that there is always a reasonably priced, wide ranging cellar. In the restaurant, Scottish produce is in abundance and includes Arbroath smokie with pumpkin ravioli, Lockerbie veal, Buccleuch beef rib-eye and game from local estates: Buccleuch partridge, for example, with confit leg, chanterelles, quince and bread sauce bon bon. This conscientious approach continues into the bar’s extensive menu, which offers casual snacks and mains including an Ayrshire bacon carbonara and ploughman’s lunch using Barwhey’s cheddar. The area is famous for fishing and field sports, and with enough notice, the kitchen will cook your catch of the day for you.
