One of the Slow Food campaign’s Forgotten Foods champions, butcher Neil Watt’s Scalloway Meat Company is a reliable place to find historic Shetlander favourites reestit mutton and sassermeat (or saucermeat). Beef, lamb and pork are almost always sourced from the islands, and all their puddings (black, white, fruit), haggis, pies, burgers and sausages are made on-site. The shop includes a well-stocked grocery store – almost a mini-supermarket – selling all the basics: bread, dairy and seasonal fruit and veg are from Shetland, as is some of the cheese, and there’s a deli section. Unusually, they also have a toy department.
