Listed in the Michelin guide and awarded two AA rosettes, the seven-bedroomed Harbour Inn was taken over by Morrison Bowmore Distillers in January 2014. The regularly changing, cosmopolitan evening menu is a showcase for local ingredients: think Islay scallops, sustainably farmed Gigha halibut accompanied by nettle spätzle, savoury granola and samphire, or simple Loch Gruinart oysters. Lunches and the Schooner Bar are more approachably priced (though still not a budget option), and – perhaps what caught Bowmore’s eye – the whisky list is over 150 strong.
