A fish retailer and wholesaler run by owners Kevin and Ann Rendall, Pierowall also run Jacks, a takeaway offering much more than the usual haddock fish supper: monkfish, squid, whiting, plaice and tusk have all graced the chippy, which is open on Wednesday and Saturday evenings (5—9pm) and delivers within the Pierowall area. They also usually serve curries, pasta and vegetarian dishes – and don’t forget to try one of the famous Orkney ‘patties’. They sell direct to the public from their small shop at Broughton, while the wholesale business supplies local shops and chefs with fresh, frozen and smoked fish, which is all hand filleted, cured and smoked on the premises. All of the fish is sourced locally from the Keila boat and from the Shetland and Scrabster markets. Ann, the cook in the team, is happy to advise customers on how to cook their fish and will even happily lend one of her huge collection of recipe books to customers.
