Located in the historic and picturesque fishing village of Catterline, The Creel Inn is perched on the cliffs with fantastic views of the harbour and sea. Whilst it has carved its reputation as a seafood restaurant it offers so much more, with plenty of options for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. Cosy open fires and beamed ceilings characterise this ex-fisherman’s cottage, with two choices of dining room - the restaurant or more informal lounge - both serving the same contemporary Scottish menu. Constantly updated to reflect the seasons, this is accompanied by a daily specials blackboard with the 'catch of the day'. A mix of the comforting and the more sophisticated, mains might range from lamb shank to paupiettes of sole filled with prawn mousse, and there's a daily changing seafood platter that comes with chips, dips and veg. A wealth of local products are incorporated with the fish and seafood coming daily from Aberdeen and Gourdon, and the crab and lobster caught in Catterline Bay itself. There's a notably huge selection of more than 100 whiskies, and always at least three Scottish real ales on. There is limited parking at the restaurant and you may have to park on the narrow streets nearby - but a stroll round the village and down to the tiny harbour is a must in any case.
