Having come under new management in 2013, this venerable old chippy, with its strong claims to be Glasgow's oldest café, is a renewed attraction for anyone after a city centre supper. The reassuringly cluttered shop, looking like it hasn't been touched since the 1950s, includes booths at the back for dining in, while very late-night opening offers the only chippy-based sustenance in the area for drinkers after the closure of long-standing Mr Chips around the corner. Haddock is the star here, thickly filleted, well-proportioned with meaty chunks, wrapped up in a lightly coated batter with a golden colour and good crunch, accompanied by heaps of satisfyingly chunky chips. Sides are minimal, with no mushy peas available, although there is ice-cream for dessert, available to go in cones.
