Open since January 2013, Jake Schamrel has built up an enthusiastic local following for his pizzas, burgers, and grill menu, which you can takeaway or eat in (byob). Three different ovens have been built in: clay, curing and wood-fired pizza. He doesn't scrimp on ingredients or method either: the headline ingredient for the pulled pork pizza is bone-in top shoulder, slow-cooked in the clay oven for ten hours then piled onto a hand-made BBQ pizza base. Burgers are hand-pressed and use only fresh herbs – the venison and haggis burger gets a lot of recommendations – and coleslaw is home-made. The full menu is served during the evening, and lunch is a lighter menu of breakfast rolls, pizza by the slice and snacks, with a daily specials board. Part-baked pizzas were introduced shortly after opening: made up for you and started in their ovens, they just need finishing in yours so they’re super-hot and fresh.
