Launched in 2012, Ronan Foods (Ronan meaning ‘little seal’ in Gaelic and ‘Samurai Warrior’ in Japanese) develop free-from foods. Their first product, Yi, is a sorbet-like frozen dessert containing no added sugar, or any dairy, eggs, gluten, lactose, artificial colours, soya…it's healthy, basically: low calorie and suitable for diabetics. Japanese-inspired flavours include wasabi-lime, but it also comes in chocolate, raspberry and lemon. Based in Edinburgh, they have a development garden, in which they're growing produce to be used in their range, as well as wasabi, supplied to restaurants. Stockists are currently London-centric, but expect to start seeing more of it up north.
