Willowgate Cafe / Restaurant
Re-opened in May 2013 after a much protested two-year closure, Willowgate Cafe is at the heart of Willowgate Trout Fishery. This means a tranquil aspect, views that belie its proximity to Perth town centre and wooden-panelled, fishing lodge décor – but it doesn't mean it's just for the fishermen. In a bid to make this clear, a river taxi service will soon be established from Perth and back – in the meantime, boat trips can be pre-arranged from the café to Elcho Castle and Perth. When up and running it'll make nipping in for tea and cake, a simple hot or cold lunch or their regular Sunday roast even easier. Much of their menu is made on site, including the baking, jams and chutneys, which are also available to take away. In summer months, sitting by the river is a big draw. When it's colder, the log-burning stove will be a particularly welcome sight for post-fishing customers, or those who've made the riverside walk from Perth.
