Re-opening in May 2012 following a radical, multi-million pound refurbishment by the Aurora Hotel Collection, the Cairn Hotel and Lodge is a beacon of style and sophistication. From a former hunting lodge to an Italian-inspired, contemporary boutique hotel the décor is as uncomplicated as it gets with jet black and chic white throughout. From the bar to the 75-seat Grill Room restaurant, a venue inspired by the grand grill rooms of London, the service is formal but friendly. Offering a range of tapas along with a wide selection of starter dishes that combine Scottish tradition with modern innovation – Perthshire smoked salmon, heritage potato and horseradish salad, beetroot relish and yuzu dressing, there is ample choice. Typical grill items such as burgers and steaks, dry aged for 28 and 36 days, are seared on an intensely hot Josper Grill for maximum flavour. Sourcing Scottish ingredients and shouting loud about the provenance, Shetland scallops, Ayrshire pork rib, Isle of Lewis mussels, Lanark blue cheese all feature. Desserts include classics like crème brûlée as well as more modern sweet creations. Sunday is roast day with a special two or three course menu available and a classic or contemporary afternoon tea is served in the lounge daily.
