Contemporary hotel bar with great views, extensive wine and cocktail list and a nice line in boutique gin.
This review is taken from the current (2016) edition.
Situated next to Twenty Princes Street (the Royal British Hotel’s in-house restaurant), Juniper stretches across the front of the building, cleverly maximising the views of the iconic Old Town skyline. It’s strikingly styled – although perhaps a little over-designed for some tastes – with different areas featuring banquettes, booths or plush circular sofas. Given the Juniper moniker, it’s no surprise that gin features heavily in the cocktail list, with recommended serves using an impressive array of herbs, fruits and spices. The signature Juniper cocktail has a light, citrus kick topped with apple foam, while those looking for something darker and more mysterious should opt for the Darkest Night, featuring sloe gin, vanilla tincture and cold-brewed citrus tea. To soak up those cocktails the menu offers hearty ‘street food with a twist’; from the luxe comfort of lobster mac 'n' cheese to native oysters or ox cheek and brie croquettes.
- High point: Great range of gins and well-made cocktails
- Low point: Bar staff can seem a bit disinterested
- Notable dish: Scottish lobster mac'n'cheese
With laid back beats, an extensive range of drinks and with views that just can’t be beaten, Juniper is the place to see and be seen.
Juniper captures the essence of Edinburgh with its breath-taking vistas across the city skyline, perfectly complemented by the finest of Champagnes and truly inspired cocktail list to satisfy the most demanding aficionado!
The striking white bar contrasts perfectly with aubergine and cranberry furnishings, along with original artwork and subtle lighting, giving it a warmth and informality. The window booths with their unrivalled views are much sought after or relax in one of our comfy chairs in our library. Or if you’re lucky enough to get one of the stools at the bar you’ll be mesmerised by the Juniper crew as they create their exceptional cocktails such as the full Scottish breakfast, rhubarb & custard, Venezuelan blinker or try their signature cocktail, Juniper.
There’s a selection of imaginative bar bites or for something more substantial, try our spectacular restaurant Twenty Princes Street Grill & Smokehouse.
Sleek, chic and discreet, Juniper is top of the list for anyone looking to impress. We don’t just want you to enjoy your drink, we want you to enjoy the whole experience.
