Launched in July 2012, Mondo is a multi-purpose hotel, bar and restaurant in the heart of Coatbridge which places an emphasis on subtle style and comfort, with the two log fires in their dining room a proud example of the way they like to do things. A feature is also made of their reliance on local food suppliers, including J. Gilmour's butcher from Edinburgh and Lanarkshire’s Albert Bartlett potatoes. Their menu is heavy with the kind of range you would expect from a local destination dining hotel, including sirloin and fillet steaks, burgers with a handful of varied and inventive toppings and a selection of pasta and risotto plates. Elsewhere on the menu lie Gressingham duck breast with pan-fried beetroot and Lyonnaise potatoes, loin of pork stuffed with a mushroom and mustard tapenade and the chef’s own fish and chips, a collection of dishes which fuse old-fashioned crowd-pleasing with an eye on contemporary styles and favourites.
