The Steayban is a popular spot in the quiet country setting of Glassford near Strathaven. It’s a lovingly run affair that allows bistro-ish Scottish, French and Asian influences to play out on a weekly changing lunch menu, with a firm nod to the best local and seasonal produce available. Think ‘ribeye satay salad’ to start, followed by a venison hotpot; or a chicken, ham and apricot ballotine and then a chorizo and Cumberland sausage cassoulet. Pre-theatre and à la carte menus change less often but are of the same high quality, with comforting classics like chicken balmoral and featherblade of slow-cooked beef joining cuts of steak and venison on the menu. The wine list is impressively diverse with a range yet affordable new and old world wines to suit varying tastes.
