Not a stretch of road previously known for its culinary ambition, Wishaw Main Street has quickly embraced the lively, relaxed and high-end approach of chef and proprietor Derek Mather. Open since 2008, Artisan has been confidently expanding a menu that embraces the best Scottish recipes made with local and seasonal produce. Dishes include Stornoway black pudding and Bruichladdich sausage and Lanark haggis served with a peppercorn sauce. Plus there are plenty of locally sourced steaks and burgers. Most impressive is the collection of over 3,500 whiskies that line the walls above the tables, with about 2,400 open for sampling. There’s a bottle from every imaginable corner of the land — from the Highlands and Islands to Speyside and the Lowlands. Keep an eye out for special tasting events through the year. Although official closing time is 10pm every night, the restaurant occasionally closes earlier during the week.
