Cairngorms Larder

Tilly and Alan Smith, owners of Wild Farm near Tomintoul, rear and sell rare-breed Belted Galloway beef, Soay lamb, fallow deer venison, and wild boar pork with a ‘low input, low output’ ethos. Visitors can buy the free-range meat directly from Wild Farm by appointment via web, email or phone. Their website also lists prices and butchers’ cuts available to buy, plus their cold-smoked fallow venison, wild boar bacon and lamb, created in the farm’s walk-in timber smokehouse, built in the traditional design of the Sami people north of the Arctic Circle. Tilly and Alan also own and manage the Cairngorm Reindeer Herd, leading treks up the Cairngorm mountains to hand-feed the soft, velvety noses of these friendly, characterful beasts (which are purely for display, not eating).
