Kid-friendly café with a good selection of vitamin-packed juices and smoothies

Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2018 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £7.95 (+p&p).

Not to be mixed up with the Skylark in Porty, this friendly Stockbridge café sits diagonally across from the library and is definitely one to remember if you take kids out to eat. At weekends the back room opens out into a large play area, with spacious baby-changing facilities and free nappies if you’ve been caught short. On weekday mornings there’s Song Circle, a singalong group for under-fives hosted by Scottish folk singer and owner’s mum Gill Bowman. There are plenty of healthy options on the menu; vitamin-packed juices and smoothies, beetroot and turmeric lattes and breakfast smoothie bowls are a good kick-start to the day, as are bagels from the Bearded Baker filled with bacon, pastrami or falafel. Potted plants in geometric pots are for sale, as well as jars of sundries like coconut oil and almond butter. The café supports Edinburgh’s cockle-warming Heat for the Homeless project, which distributes free hot water bottles and invites café owners to fill them up for rough sleepers.
