The Food Link Van
Not open to the public.
A community project that's had a huge impact on the uptake of local food in Skye and the neighbouring mainland, the van is run by the Skye & Lochalsh Food Link Group. Set up in 2000 by a group of producers, customers and individual supporters, the van promotes fresh local food by distributing produce around local businesses, including restaurants, hotels and shops, allowing producers to take orders they would otherwise not have been able to fulfill. In ten years, it increased sales from £6,800 worth of local produce carried annually to over £90,000, and there are now around 15 producers and 40 customers using the van.
